    Ubuntu 7.04

    OK, so today I installed the beta version of Ubuntu 7.04. It was an interesting experience. First I tried upgrading from Edgy. This proved to be rather stupid. After rebuilding a sources list file (upgrade didn't like my extra repositories) and much downloading, my CPU overheated and the system kicked me out 99% through. On reboot.... no OS.

    What I Learned

    What I should have done, is download the the proper CD and install it over the top of my previous dist. Yes, I have to reinstall all my apps, but at least a get a clean system. Some of the old stuff I don't want any more anyway. It really is good practice to have a cleanly installed system regularly.

    Luckily, I'd kept all my important documents on a different partition so it was simply a matter of formatting the original one and cleanly installing Feisty over the top. So far things look good. Watch this space....
