UIM is the way forward

Since I last installed Ubuntu, I've decided the time have come for a change. It's a shame, as I really quite liked SCIM, but developing in Java simply made this impossible.

SCIM lack of XIM

Basically, Ubuntu's SCIM still lacks proper XIM support. This means you can't input into applications that aren't GTK or QT based. Although 90% probably are, it rules out Java stuff like Netbeans. UIM on the other hand does not have this problem.

UIM Installation

As with SCIM, there are a few things you need to do to install Japanese support with UIM in a non Japanese locale with Ubuntu. For a full guide, please see my posting on the Ubuntu community page:
