UIM not SCIM - 2008-02-13 16:59:39 UIM is the way forwardSince I last installed Ubuntu, I've decided the time have come for a change. It's a shame, as I really quite liked SCIM, but developing in Java simply made this impossible.SCIM lack of XIMBasically, Ubuntu's SCIM still lacks proper XIM support. This means you can't input into applications that aren't GTK or QT based. Although 90% probably are, it rules out Java stuff like Netbeans. UIM on the other hand does not have this problem.UIM InstallationAs with SCIM, there are a few things you need to do to install Japanese support with UIM in a non Japanese locale with Ubuntu.
