International Management - 2007-03-05 09:30:51 DistanceCurrently living in Japan, I cannot remove myself from certain responsibilities for network management back in England... those of my family PCs.International ManagementHaving parents and a brother who rely on you for network support is one of those things that can really become taxing when living on the other side of the world I've discovered. I used to always have the fall back of getting on the train to sort serious problems out, but no more.VNCI've found VNC very helpful in remote administration. Especially realVNC. Real VNC. This package is great because it's Linux, Windows and Java supported.Remote installSo using VNC, once a LiveCD version of linux has been booted and remote desktop enabled, I can run through the installation process and do all the disk partitioning etc. This means I don't have to talk users through the process via the phone. Excellent!UbuntuThough still having some small peculiarities to Iron out, I find Ubuntu great for it's one LiveCD install method and also speed. Ubuntu |
